MANGANA RADHA aged 37:  Three years ago, Mangana's husband- a rickshaw driver, died suddenly in 2008 of a heart attack.

The mother of two was left without anyone to look after her and had to find work as a builders labourer for minimal pay.

Mangana never lost hope and decided to borrow money to start a small mobile vegetable business.  Sadly, the repayments and high interest on the loan made it almost impossible to make a profit. Mangana has also taken out a loan to pay for the dowry for her daughers who recently married.

Recently Mangana approached Empower 4 Life to help her develop her business. She is planning to set up a permanent shop at a cost of  $990 AUD.

RAMESH NORI aged 46, is married to Annamma.   They have two daughters, 15 year old Shanthi  and Shiny aged 13. Due to poverty, both girls were admitted to a government hostel. For many years Ramesh has worked as a helper in a shop and later started his own small vegetable shop with his wife.

Ramesh took out a private loan to start the business but is not able to make a profit as most of the income is paid back to the money lenders at a very high rate of interest. Ramesh and his wife Annamma continue to run their shop though are still in debt and struggling to survive the daily costs of living.
